Skincare for Sensitive Souls: Halos N Horns
Halo’s N Horns stock a wide range of bath products which are designed specifically for use with infants and toddlers. Mums Baby Magazine put two products from the Halo’s N Horns range to the test.
Firstly we used the ‘Gentle Bath & Body Wash’ over the period of a week with a toddler. The packaging is colourful and interesting to the eye for little ones when in the bath, the product itself is sweet smelling and lathers up nicely when washing little ones. However, it is noticeable that it isn’t as bubbly as many other products available as Halos N Horns do not use SLS (a foaming agent which can be an irritant to skin).
In order to achieve the sweet fragrance of this product Halos N Horns use a range of natural conditioners and plant-derived cleansing products ensuring that the product is mild. The Bath and Body Wash is hypoallergenic and non-drying thus gentle upon skin.
and is actually multipurpose as it can be used as an all-over hair and body wash and also a Bubble Bath formula. Mums Baby Magazine give the Halos N Horns Gentle Bath & Body Wash 8/10 as we deem it to be the ideal multiuse product for bath time with a baby.
Mums Baby Magazine also put the Halos N Horns ‘Moisturising Body Lotion’ to the test with a toddler and a parent who has extreme eczema over the period of a week through ‘baby massage techniques’. The lotion doesn’t leave your hands feeling greasy and is made with natural ingredients such as Vitamin E and Sunflower Oil to leave your babies skin feeling soft. Once again, the Moisturising Lotion is designed to be as mild as possible to the skin and avoids use of harsh ingredients which may irritate the skin.
However, after several days of use (using once a day during a baby massage session) the parent who suffered from eczema found that their hands became irritated and sore. Therefore we would suggest not to use this product with a child with extremely sensitive skin. The child showed no signs of irritation
and seemed deeply relaxed during the massage session, the fragrance of this product is soothing and sweet thus ideal for applying after an evening bath to wind down ready for sleep. Mums Baby Magazine give the Moisturising Lotion 5/10.
Halos N Horns have taken advice from paediatric skin care experts who also agree that realistically parents should only use water to wash and bathe their baby for the first four weeks of life. Thus, it is advised not to use any products until your child is over one month old.
Halos N Horns products are available in a wide range of supermarkets and are currently exclusively available in Boots stores.
A Top Tip for those with Bath Crayons!
Bath Crayons are the new ‘washable’ crayons which can be used on baths, tiles and other smooth surfaces. Once used, simply wipe the drawing/ colouring with a damp cloth to remove any traces of your little ones fine art in the bathroom. As smooth surfaces are ideal to be used with these crayons, we suggest laminating some of your children’s favourite ‘colour in’ picture’s. Most TV characters offer free printable colour in’s upon the network/ channels websites.
Once you have chosen and laminated a selection of pictures, these can then be easily stuck to the side of the bath (with natural vacuum) and offer your child creative entertainment whilst in the tub.
Bath crayons can be purchased in most supermarkets for a fairly reasonable price. However, if your check out www.amazon.co.uk they are currently selling bath crayons for the rock bottom price of £0.01!

Wrap it and sack it! Sarah Collins, July’s Top Tester reviews the Tommee Tippee Nappy Wrapper.
Sarah Collins (34 from Huddersfield, West Yorkshire) is Mum to Eva (2 years, 5 months) and Daniel (10 weeks). Sarah tells MBM more about the Tommee Tippee Nappy Wrapper.
“Having used nappy sacks for the first few weeks when my daughter was born and trying to juggle nappy, cotton wool and wipes going successfully into the nappy sack and then remembering to take it downstairs and out to the bin after every nappy change I quickly looked for an alternative and found this. It’s not the most expensive baby gadget we bought, but now with baby number two on the scene and my daughter just about still in nappies, it has been the best investment and addition to the nursery.”
Suitable from birth until your child is potty trained, The Tommee Tippee Nappy Wrapper is available from www.kiddicare.com for only £9.99, the triple refill packs are £12.99 and well worth their value, Sarah explains further benefits of this product to MBM:
The Tommee Tippee Nappy Wrapper is easy to use.- The Nappy Wrapper doesn’t take up a great deal of space
- By using the Nappy Wrapper, it makes the process of getting rid of used nappies hygienic.
- The Tommee Tippee Nappy Wrapper stores up to twenty eight nappies at a time
- Each refill cassette can last last up to one month
- There is no need to fill your outside bin with mounds of individually wrapped nappies.
- The Tommee Tippee Nappy Wrapper makes the disposal of waste products such as wipes, cotton wool and the nappy itself easy and quick, there is no juggling nappy sacks.
- The product is great value for money in comparison with using standard nappy sacks
- The Tommee Tippee Nappy Wrapper saves multiple trips out to the bin to dispose of used nappies.
- The Tommee Tippee Nappy Wrapper is odour free.
- It only takes on simple twist to seal each wrapper.
- An Internal blade in the lid is used to cut the plastic wrapper when you need to empty the tub.
Sarah found it difficult to identify many drawbacks to this product. The only two negative aspects that she could identify were:
- Sometimes the blade does not always cut the plastic so you have to do this manually
- There is no indication when the cassette is going to run out, so you need to have a spare one in the house all times.
Sarah strongly recommends this product to all parents who are struggling with the struggle which nappy sacks can cause. MBM would like to thank Sarah for her time.
