Natural Healing Remedies for Mother & Baby from Wildsheep

image

Baltic Amber has been used as a traditional European remedy against pain for centuries. Amber is a natural analgesic, made from fossilised tree resin. When placed against the skin, ambers natural healing, therapeutic oils are released, promoting relaxation, decreasing acidity within the body and inducing relaxation. Due to the natural healing properties of amber, amber is commonly worn by infants to prevent teething pain.

Whilst amber jewellery is a popular product for young infants, it can also be worn by adults to prevent and aid a number of common ailments. Amber provides a natural remedy and aid for a wide range of ailments including:

  • Induces relaxation
  • Natural anti-inflammatory
  • Natural analgesic
  • Increased speed of healing
  • Boosts immune system
  • Reduces nappy rash
  • Reduces fevers
  • Reduces swollen gums
  • Reduces acidity within body and redness in the cheeks (often caused by teething)
  • Natural aid for eczema and allergies

imagewww.wildsheep.co.uk sell a range of genuine Baltic amber jewellery (necklaces mainly) designed specifically for reducing ailments for both children and adults. Mums Baby Magazine put the Wildsheep ‘Mother & Baby Amber Necklace Set’ to the test with a Mum who suffers with aches and pains specifically in her hands due to previous operations and a teething toddler.

imageEach necklace is made as securely as possible, each bead is individually knotted to prevent beads from becoming a hazard if the necklace were to be snapped or broken. Each necklace can be secured safely using a plastic clasp, whilst this is easy for an adult to carry out, it is too difficult for young children thus safe for young children to wear as only parents can attach and remove the amber necklace from their child. Each necklace arrives wrapped in a beautiful white, organza bag inside of which is a leaflet providing further information upon the properties of amber and care guides for the jewellery.

Wildsheep produce a wide range of amber jewellery differing in size and colour. Children’s amber necklaces are suitable for boys and girls from 3-4 month of age. Teething however is a long, on-going process and therefore it is never really too late for your child to start wearing an amber necklace!

Mums Baby Magazines testers found after wearing the matching ‘Mother and Baby’ amber necklaces for a fortnight that both individuals seemed to benefit from the experience. Firstly, our toddler tester seemed a lot calmer and seemed to chew on his hands less, thus indicating a reduction in teething pain. Whilst our adult tester found that she felt less aches and pains whilst wearing the Wildsheep Baltic Amber Necklace.

Introducing jewellery or accessories to young children can often be difficult as many young children refuse to wear something new or different. However, the Wildsheep ‘Mother and Baby’ Amber Jewellery Sets enable the parent to demonstrate and model how to wear jewellery safely and sensibly, encouraging children who may be wary over wearing necklaces and jewellery to follow their parents examples. Jewellery should not be worn whilst sleeping as it could cause a choking hazard.

9Mums Baby Magazine give the ‘Mother and Baby Baltic Amber Teething Necklace Sets’ 9/10. Wildsheep sell a wide range of amber teething products, each of these may vary in colour due to the natural properties of amber. Mother and Baby Amber Teething Necklace sets are available from www.wildsheep.co.uk for £23.79

Gumigem, The Teething Gem!

image

Teething is a painful process which sadly all young children have to endure.Whilst there is a wide range of medication available to sooth the pain of teething, there are also natural and ‘chemical free’ solutions which can offer pain relief for your little ones such as soothers and toys which your child is able to chew upon to decrease pain. However, the best and most effective soother for any child is the love and affection of their parent.

imageGumigem have designed a range of classic and simple jewellery which can be worn by parents and carers, to provide pain relief from teething to children whilst they are having a cuddle with their loved one. Each Gumigem necklace features a BPA, lead, latex and phralate free pendant which can be chewed and sucked for pain relief. The Gumigem pendants (measuring approximately 2” in diameter) can be removed from the cord of the necklace to be sterilised or alternatively put into the dishwasher.

Gumigem pendants are easy for little hands to hold and put into their mouths for either teething or general entertainment during cuddles or feeds. The cord of the necklace features a ‘pull and snap’ fastening to ensure safety for the wearer. Gumigem necklaces are funky and functional! Available in a wide range of designs, styles, shapes and colours (each necklace tends to vary in colour slightly as each mix is different).

10Mums Baby Magazine give the Gumigem Necklace 10/10 for fashion with functionality! We are proud to announce that we now stock a wide range of Gumigem Teething Necklaces in our new online shop starting at only £12.50

Baltic Amber Necklaces, The Alternative Teething Treatment.

imageTeething can be a traumatic time for both child and parent. There are a wide variety of products available on the market aimed specifically to relieve teething, most of these products are chemical based. Administering medicines to your little one can be worrying for the child and parent, the relief is short term and the child may suffer side effects such as drowsiness.

A natural source of relief is now available! Amber is said to have significant healing properties, formed over 45 million years ago, Baltic amber is an organic material (a fossil resin) which was produced by pine trees which grew in Northern Europe. As the climate temperature increased, the trees grew and began producing vast amounts of resin, which then formed a stable state through the process of oxidation (so scientists say).

Although there are a wide varieties of amber, the best known are the deposits of amber found in the Baltic region. Natural Baltic amber can be scientifically validated in age from 35-50 million years old!

Amber is a beautiful material, its colour represents sunshine and warmth. Amber is very lightweight to wear and is said to have natural properties which can aid:

  • Calming effect upon the wearer
  • Drug- Free alternative for the relief of joint stiffness
  • Drug- Free alternative for the relief of arthritic pain
  • Drug- Free alternative for the relief of teething pain

IMG_5128Amber holds analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties which make this gem the ideal solution for homeopathic remedies to work with your body to relieve discomfort. Scientists have carried out research into the reasons for ambers ‘healing’ properties and have found that amber contains a high level of succinic acid which we also have within our bodies. It is suggested that small amounts of succinic acid can be absorbed when amber is in contact with the skin, this acts as an analgesic (pain killer) and anxiolytic (stress/ anxiety relief).

Amber Artisans produce a wide range of amber based jewellery designed specifically for babies, toddlers and children to relieve the discomfort of teething. Mums Baby Magazine put a Baltic amber teething necklace to the test with a toddler suffering from teething pain due to the larger back teeth coming through. In the past our toddler has suffered discomfort and increased temperatures due to teething, although many products (medicines and teething toys) have been used to aid relief, they have only provided a short term relief.

We wondered how our toddler might react to wearing jewellery for the first time, he actually seemed quite taken with the idea that he was jewellery clad! The ‘multi-coloured sunshine amber beads necklace’ provided for testing was the ideal size for our two year old (12-13” in length), although Amber Artisans stock a wide range of alternative sizes available so it is worth measuring your little one before purchasing an amber teething necklace/ bracelet.

IMG_5132We were concerned that the teething necklace could be a potential choking risk if broken. However, we were impressed with the fact that if the necklace were to be broken, each bead is individually knotted onto the necklace itself, thus only one bead would fall off. We also found the fastening clasp (a simple twist and unscrew clasp) to be effective as little hands could not remove the necklace without parents assistance.

Once on the necklace looked beautiful and after wearing this item for a week (only whilst awake as this item should not be worn during sleep/ unsupervised periods) we found that our toddlers teething symptoms seemed to decrease and wane. During the testing week we checked our toddlers teeth regularly to ensure that teething was still taking place (in order to ensure that the improved symptoms weren’t purely a coincidence), we found that his teeth were still pushing through the gums and felt quite sharp to the touch, thus teething was occurring. Mums Baby Magazine therefore award the Amber Artisans Baltic Amber ‘Multi-Colour’ Teething Necklace 8/10 for natural, alternative teething relief methods.

8Available from www.amberartisans.com, the Amber Multi-Color Teething Necklace is $23.95 (£14.59 GBP).

AMBER TEETHING JEWELLERY IS MADE TO WEAR NOT TO CHEW, ITEMS SHOULD ONLY BE WORN WHILST AWAKE WHEN SUPERVISED

Nibble On A Necklace or Bite On A Bangle? ‘Teething Bling’ Makes Accessorising Safe!

IMG_4897

Whilst teething, infants tend to put almost anything into their mouths to chew upon to relieve their pain and discomfort. A child’s biggest comfort is to be in the arms of their parent. Whilst seeking reassurance from parents, children seem to find the most unusual things to try and chew upon! Often parents find themselves having to distract their little ones from trying to chew upon necklaces, buttons, shirt toggles or anything that dangles and seems attractive to the eye…or mouth! Women tend to find that wearing jewellery is no longer an option once they have children as it is far too appealing for little ones to tug at and try to nibble upon.

Rather than removing  jewellery or accessories why not replace these items with some ‘Teething Bling’? Teething Bling is jewellery specifically designed to be chewed upon! Designed for babies and worn by parents, teething bling is jewellery made from the same silicone as most teething toys.

imageAlthough Teething Bling is made using silicone the jewellery appears to resemble semi precious stone similar to the popular ‘healing stone’ products available in many gift stores. Teething Bling sell both necklaces and bangles in a wide range of colours, designs and shapes.

IMG_4902Although jewellery is often considered unsafe to wear with the presence of a little one, Teething Bling features a ‘break away fastening clasp’ so that if tugged items can be safely removed without causing a choking risk for parents. All Teething Bling items are CPSIA compliant and carry the CE mark (meeting European Safety Standards). Teething Bling Accessories are made from materials which are federally approved and contain no harmful chemicals such as phthalates, BPA’s, PVC’S, lead or latex. Although Teething Bling products are designed with safety in mind, it is advised that children should never be left alone with these products as Teething Bling is designed to be worn by an adult. Necklace lengths can be altered by pulling the chord through the clasp and creating a knot where appropriate then discarding the remaining chord. Teething Bling products are easily washed either by hand or alternatively for use with younger infants, Teething Bling can withstand sterilising and dishwashing.

Mums Baby Magazine put a Teething Bling necklace to the test with a teething toddler. As our toddler was unused to his Mother wearing any jewellery he found the necklace of great interest and began to fiddle with the necklace. He found great entertainment in swinging the pendant back and forth. Once again, he became distracted by the pain of his back teeth coming through and put his hand into his mouth (a common sign of teething pain). At this point we offered him the Teething Bling to teeth upon, which he began to do and was soon soothed and quietly content.

IMG_4899The Teething Bling jewellery appears to look nothing like silicone, it genuinely looks like semi precious stone. We put several unaware Mums and Dads to the test by asking them whether or not they liked the jewellery and what they thought it was made from. The parents were pleasantly surprised when we informed them that the jewellery was actually made from silicone, a few even asked to feel the jewellery for physical proof!

Teething Bling is not only a fantastic product but it’s a fantastic idea too! Teething Bling is ideal for parents, grandparents, Nursery Nurses or anyone spending time with a Teething Child.

Teething Bling is beautifully packaged in an organza bag containing the product itself, instructions and imageguidance. Available from www.smartmumuk.com Teething Bling Necklaces retail at £12.95 and Bangles retail from £6 upwards. SmartMumUK also sell coordinating jewellery, gift sets and bespoke gift selection.  Mums Baby Magazine give Teething Bling 9/10 for making ‘Bling’ safe for parents to wear with pride.

Decembers Top Tester Lisa Beedham tells us about Alfie’s Amber Teething Necklace.

imageLisa (27) from Blackpool is Mum to Alfie (17 months). Alfie has previously struggled with teething troubles, after being advised by a friend to try using an Amber Teething Necklace Lisa decided to give it a go and ordered one online from http://www.amber-teething-necklaces.co.uk for £13.99

Amber is said to have healing properties, Amber Teething Necklaces are a traditional European remedy used to reduce teething pain. Amber has been used for centuries in Europe with successful results. Suitable for babies six weeks upwards, Amber teething necklaces are widely available online from a range of retailors.

Amber teething necklaces do nimageot come particularly cheap. However, Lisa explains that it was literally her last resort as nothing else seemed to help Alfie. Lisa says that she had already tried Baby Paracetamol, Teething Rings, Teething Powders, Teething Gels and none of these made any difference to Alfie’s pain.

Alfie has been wearing his Amber Teething Necklace for almost two months now, Alfie has recently had two large teeth appear at the top of his mouth and one tooth at the bottom. None of these teeth arriving seems to have bothered Alfie since wearing the Amber Teething Necklace. It seems the Amber does indeed have ‘healing powers!’.

imageEach bead upon the necklace is attached so that even if one bead breaks off it will not fall apart, only the bead which breaks would come off, therefore reducing worries upon children breaking the necklace and detaching the beads.

Lisa is unable to identify a single negative aspect to this product other than the high price. However, in comparison with the price of a child’s comfort and happiness it is ‘well worth paying’.
