Two Under Two: Grace, Mum to Felicity and Lacey answers your questions.

Upon having a child, it seems that there are endless questions both Mum’s and Dad’s seek answers for. Relatives and friends can be an excellent source of information, it can often help to have impartial advice and suggestions from other parents as they are often facing the same challenges as you at the same time.

Although, most health visitors and midwives often suggest getting out and meeting other Mum’s and Dad’s in order to make new friends who may have children the same age as your little one, it can often be difficult to get out whether you have just the one or more children. This can be when the internet becomes a Mother’s Best Friend, from websites to forums to blogs, the internet is a rich source of advice which is easy to access.

Grace, Mum to Felicity and Lacey uses the internet to share videos upon her life as a Mum. Grace has over 1000 subscribers to her videos on www.youtube.com/thegracediaries and is so successful that she is now a youtube partner.  Grace has kindly taken her time to make a three part video to answer your questions upon being a Mum to ‘more than one’.

Files, Folders and Photos

imageBabies don’t just take over your life, they also tend to take over our hard drive space too! From conception onwards, it is amazing how many photos and videos you will take and create recording the precious moments. Although digital photos are easy to shoot and print, photos often tend to remain stored on our hard drives awaiting printing for weeks, months or sometimes years!

clip_image002[4]Don’t let your precious memories get lost in the multiple layers of your hard drive, instead take the time to organise and save your memories safely.

Firstly, ensure that your camera/ video camera has the correct date and time settings, so that when it is connected to your computer the file can be saved with the correct date for recording memories.

Secondly, setup a folder for each month according to age, for example, ‘Month 1’, ‘Month 2’ etc…

Thirdly, Store each month according to the year of your child’s life, for example ‘Year One’, ‘Year Two’, etc…

Fourthly, ensure that you keep a backup of your data on an external storage devise such as a pen drive, CD or external hard drive. Alternatively, you may wish to use Internet Storage Space such as Flickr or your personal webspace provided by your Internet Service Provider.

Finally, remember to get some of your memories printed, it is all very well having digital copies of your memories but there is nothing better than having a hard copy to treasure forever.

Dont forget the Dads!

Fathers Day falls upon Sunday 20th June this year, Fathers Day is a key date for the Diary which should be celebrated and recognised. Daddy’s after all are just as important as us Mums!

If your child is old enough to make an informed choice upon gifts then try to ensure that you offer them an opportunity to fuss over their Fathers and to get them something nice to celebrate ‘Daddy’s Day’.

If your little one isn’t yet at an age where they are able to choose something themselves then why not make it a little more personal by using a photograph of your little one to create something special.

Perhaps you could arrange a ‘Daddy’s Day’ celebration such as a trip out or even a pampering afternoon for the fellas!

Marking the Moment

image Blink and you have missed it! From the moment that your child enters the World they begin to grow at a rapid rate. Just as parents often find keeping a record of their child’s weight and growth charts, Children find it both fascinating and rewarding to view their progress in height over the months and years.

You don’t necessarily to have to spend money upon a height chart which may have your children’s favourite characters emblazoned all over it, keep it simple and make it personal by creating your very own height chart. If you aren’t likely to move house for the foreseeable future then imagewhy not record your child’s progress in height upon a wall outside the house or even inside using appropriate materials which may of taste to your style of decor.

If you are the crafty type then why not spend some time using fabrics and materials to create a customised height chart which is made with love from the very person who started their child’s journey of growth. You could perhaps sew on buttons or keep sakes from particular moments in your child’s upbringing.

Top Tip: Put a New Spin Onto Your Little Ones Toys

imageChildren can get easily bored with the ‘same old’ toys. This does not mean all parents should rush out and buy a whole new array of toys to entertain their little ones with.

Put a whole new spin onto your child’s toys by rotating the toys that they play with. Find yourself some boxes which are suitable for containing toys and select a range of toys for each box.

Rather than offering your child all the toys available at one time, each day/ two days chose a different box of toys for your little one to explore and play with. This way your little one will maintain interest in a range of toys over time.
